Flower Care

How to care for your flowers

Happy Healthy Flowers

After many years of growing flowers and designing with them, we’ve tested all sorts of methods for keeping flowers lasting their longest and have found that the secret is simple.

CLEAN WATER + CLEAN VASE = HAPPY FLOWERS

When you get your bouquet home, trim the stems and place in a clean vase with fresh water.

Repeat this every 2 days. Bacteria is the enemy! You don’t want to drink out of a dirty vase right? Neither do flowers. Keep both the water and vase as clean as possible.

Rinse and Trim STEMS before placing in a CLEAN vase with FRESH water

If you have an arrangement, many of our floral designs are made to where you can lift them out in order to change the water. Place a second vase beside your sink and to hold the flowers while you clean the original vase and trim stems before replenishing with fresh water. If your arrangement is in chicken wire, carefully tip out dirty water and add in fresh water.

A few important tips:

  1. AVOID placing flowers in direct sunlight or near fruit. Fruit gives off ethylene which causes premature wilting.
  2. REMOVE spent flowers as needed. Some flowers will fade before others - that’s totally normal.
  3. With a little care, in most cases, you can get up to 2 weeks out of your bouquet or arrangement.

About our Packaging

Bel Fiore Co. bouquet stems are wrapped with a compostable hydration source and bag. Bel Fiore Co. never uses floral foam in our design work as it is a micro-plastic that never breaks down. Arrangements may contain chicken wire or other reusable floral mechanisms.
